For this list, we’ve made sure all of the burgers are under $10. At some point, we’ll do a second list for “high-end” burgers. But for now, we want to focus on affordable, good burgers. The other thing to note about this list is we focused solely on “standard” cheeseburgers, not the fancier varieties that most of these places also offer. So with those caveats in place, here are our favorite burger joints on Maui.
- Teddy’s Bigger Burger (Lahaina)
Teddy’s is a local chain with multiple locations on Oahu and one shop on Maui plus a Maui food truck. They are rapidly expanding onto the mainland. The burgers here are simply good. We like to call Teddy’s the In-N-Out/Shake Shake of Maui. It looks like a fast food joint, but the quality is much higher. The wait is also much longer, but it’s worth it. Pro tip: try to hit the Kihei Maui Brewing Company on Tuesdays and Thursdays when the Teddy’s truck is on location for an amazing meal of a burger, tater tots (always tots!) and fresh, cold beer. - Cool Cat Cafe (Lahaina)
Consistently rated a favorite burger on Maui, Cool Cat Cafe has a ’50s diner motif, done Maui-style. It’s a (covered) open air cafe with lots of seating, fun music and lots of TV’s showing the biggest games. The burgers are never frozen, 100% certified Angus Beef, served on locally baked buns. Cool Cat is conveniently located on Front Street. (Cool Cat Cafe)
- Ulupalakua Ranch Store & Grill (Kula)
Located upcountry, Ulupalakua Ranch Grill is popular with locals and folks coming down from Haleakala. Ulupalakua Ranch is an actual working ranch spread across 18,000 acres of land, with over 2300 cows. So, when you order a burger here, know that it’s taking “locally sourced” to the next level. Even the veggies served on the burgers come from local, upcountry farms. If you want to go beyond a beef burger, for a special treat, though they don’t squeeze under our $10 max price, the lamb burgers are a meal you’ll be telling your friends about. - Cafe Ole’i (Maui Lani and Kihei)
With two Maui locations, Cafe Ole’i offers up a mean burger, made with Maui-grown beef. The shoestring french fries the burgers are served with are also outstanding. You can order the burger all day at the Maui Lani location, but the burger is not available on the dinner menu at the Kihei location. Though, if you ask for it, they’ll probably make one for you. - Stewz Maui Burgers (Kihei)
An outdoor cafe that shares seating with a Starbucks, you order from a window and hope you can find seating under an umbrella. The burgers, though, are worth the hassle. Stewz uses only grass-fed, Maui-raised cattle and serve the burgers on homemade, Maui sweet bread buns. Centrally located in Kihei, Stewz has a nice casual vibe with good food. (Stewz Maui Burgers)
