It’s been said that every hour is happy hour on Maui. But not every hour on Maui features special prices on food and drinks. That’s what makes happy hour even happier! Here is a list of our favorite happy hours on the south side. For a list of our favorite happy hours on the west side, including Lahaina, Ka’anapali and Napili Bay, click here.
- Monkeypod Kitchen (Wailea)
Part of the Merriman restaurant group, Monkeypod features a large bar with a great happy hour. All appetizers are 50% from 3:00 – 5:30. Our favorite apps include the Kauai shrimp and Hamakua mushroom potstickers and the wood roasted chicken wings. For us, though, the best deal is the $9 pizzas. The wild mushroom and truffle pizza is our favorite, but we’ve tried all of them, and they’re all excellent. As for the drinks, all beers are special priced, vodka drinks featuring Maui’s own Ocean Vodka are $6 and various wines and culinary cocktails are also on special. Many consider Monkeypod’s mai tais, with their unique lilikoi foam, to be the best on Maui. (Monkeypod Kitchen)
- Three’s Bar and Grill (Kihei)
Featured on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” Three’s Bar and Grill has quickly become one of the more popular dining places on the south shore. The happy hour menu is loaded with great deals on items like sushi rolls starting at $3.50, fish tacos for just $3.75 a piece, kalua pork quesadillas for $7.50 and our favorite, the bacon fried brussel sprouts for $6.00. Three’s also has a wide assortment of drink specials. It gets crowded quick, so try to get there right when happy hour starts. Happy hour runs from 3:00 – 6:00 and again from 9:00 – 10:00 P.M. (Three’s Bar and Grill)
- Shearwater Tavern (Kihei)
A relative new kid on the block, Shearwater Tavern was opened in December, 2016 by the same restaurant group that owns the world famous Sansei sushi bars. Since then, it’s quickly established itself by offering one of the best happy hours on Maui. Unfortunately, the happy hour is literally, one happy hour, from 5:00 – 6:00. But during that hour, every appetizer on the menu is 50% off. The menu is loaded, but if we had to pick a couple of standouts, we’d go with the beer braised oxtail poutine (french fries covered with pulled, braised oxtail, a fried egg, cheese curds and jalapenos,) and the oven-roasted bone marrow (order the large, as the small is only enough to make you want more.) Beers and signature craft cocktails are $2 off. If you’re planning on visiting Shearwater Tavern during happy hour, we recommend you make a reservation. (Shearwater Tavern)
- Manoli’s Pizza Company (Wailea)
Good deals on pizza are hard to find on Maui. Thankfully, happy hour at Manoli’s features pizza slices starting at just $2.50. But the happy hour specials don’t stop with pizza. You can find both their popular coconut shrimp ($7) and their scampi-style shrimp ($8) on the happy hour menu, along with such favorites as garlic truffle fries, pork sliders and meatball sliders. Plenty of cocktails, beers and wines are also available. Happy hour is served from 3:00 – 6:00 and again from 9:00 – midnight. (Manoli’s Pizza Company)
- Kono’s on the Green (Kihei)
We were recently told to check out the happy hour at Kono’s on the Green, located up near the Maui Technology Center. Once there, we were not disappointed. While the happy hour menu only includes four items (Asian chicken wings, Saint Louis Ribs, calamari and pepperoni flatbread,) they’re all really good and cost just $6. There are also good deals to be had on specialty cocktails, beers and wines. The daily happy hour, which runs from 2:30 – 6:00 is one of the longer happy hours on Maui. (Kono’s on the Green)
